When Change Feels Hard

Reflections from a week of patient care

This past week, I had a conversation with a patient that stuck with me.

I had asked her to make a few simple dietary changes—nothing extreme—but I could immediately sense her hesitation. She looked uncomfortable… maybe even a little scared. So we paused. I asked what she was feeling, and she shared honestly: “I’m already tired. I’m stretched thin. Changing anything right now feels like too much.”

I get it.

Change is hard. Especially when you’re already not feeling like yourself. Especially when you’ve been doing all the things—working, parenting, taking care of others—and barely have time to breathe, let alone prep a healthy meal or go to bed on time.

But here’s the thing: if what you’re doing isn’t working, something has to shift.

And that shift doesn’t have to be big. You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight. You just need to start with one small step.

It could be:

✔️ Cutting out one sugary drink a day

✔️ Going to bed 15 minutes earlier

✔️ Doing 10 squats while you wait for your coffee to brew

✔️ Drinking a full glass of water first thing in the morning

Small steps create momentum. And once you start feeling even a little bit better, that energy builds on itself. You start thinking clearer, moving easier, and showing up more like you again.

Of course, setbacks will happen. Life happens. But those little moments where we “fall off track” aren’t failure—they’re part of the process. The most important thing is getting back on track, even if it’s messy. Even if it’s a Tuesday and you wish you had started Monday.

My job isn’t to expect perfection. It’s to meet you in the middle—wherever you are—and help you take the next best step.

If you’re feeling stuck, low energy, or like your health has taken a backseat, know this:

You’re not alone.

You don’t need to do it all at once.

And you don’t have to do it alone.

Let’s get you feeling better—one step at a time.
